5. Wildebeest migration safaris (July - October)

With 1.5 million wildebeest, 400,000 zebra, 12,000 eland and 300,000 Grant's and Thomson's gazelles trekking from the southern Serengeti to the Masai Mara. The migration is year long between the Masai Mara and the Serengeti and a safari in the Masai Mara during peak season, coinciding with the Great Migration, offers an unparalleled wildlife experience.

From July to October, millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles flood the plains in search of greener pastures, drawing predators like lions, cheetahs, and crocodiles. The Mara’s vast savannah comes alive with dramatic scenes of survival, as herds cross rivers and navigate treacherous terrain.

Witnessing this natural spectacle is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, offering photographers and nature enthusiasts the chance to capture some of the wild's most iconic moments. Game drives bring you close to the action, with expert guides sharing insights into the ecosystem's intricate balance.

The Masai Mara’s open landscapes, dotted with acacia trees and golden grass, provide a breathtaking backdrop. Combine this with our safari camp and immersive cultural experiences with the local Maasai people, and your safari becomes an unforgettable adventure.

6. Birding safaris

The Masai Mara offers good bird watching opportunities all year round but the best time to see a wide variety in birds would be from November to April when the migrants from Europe and North Africa arrive. During the wet season from November to May many birds get dressed their best in their breeding plumage.

The Masai Mara has some of the highest numbers of bird species and during birding season it is possible to see about 342 bird species all across the Mara plains. Some of these birds include the ostrich, kory bustard, secretary bird and various other birds of prey, storks and eagles. There a plenty of smaller birds to view as well.
